Analysis of theme
There are a couple themes in Alice in Wonderland, but the most important is the theme of Life as a confused jumbled up puzzle. Throughout the whole story Alice faces her worst nightmares, and goes through a series of unreal events along the way. These series of puzzles have no clear solutions, which frustrates Alice more and more. Every time she encounters a situation she thinks that it will make some kind of sense, but she is always wrong. In a world like wonderland, what is real is not, and what is not real is.
Alice tries to understand the running rabbit, mad hatter, and the queens confusing game of croquet. In every way the riddles, and challenges proposed to Alice have no point to make. By the end of the story Alice finally comes to the realization that she cannot expect to find logic or meaning in any of the situations in Wonderland. Even when they would seem to be normal every day problems, they still find someway to be confusing and unreal. The story of Alice in Wonderland is showing that life's ways can frustrate us sometimes, even when situations or problems seem easy to solve at the time.
Another theme is the loss of Alice's childood innocence. Along Alice's journey through Wonderland she encounters so many hard challenges. For example the discomfort she feels on never being able to be the right size makes her go nuts. This could have to do with real life puberty for a growing girl. Alice finds all these changes to be unreal, and hard to understand. This discomfort is shown multiple times in the room where she tries to fit through the door, in the garden with the caterpillar, and even when she tries to eat some eggs from a top a tree.
